The 9th Door (Downtown Denver)

The 9th Door in LoDo in downtown Denver is not your jeans and t shirt kind of restaurant. It is definitely not the kind of place you would take children to (please). The 9th Door is a small, romantic, Spanish tapas bar.

Tapas are small plates of food that are meant to be shared. The 9th Door offers a happy hour menu, Monday-Friday from 4:30-6:30, full of traditional tapas from $2 to $4. The manchego cheese with an olive tapenade is a great way to begin your happy hour experience. Savor the flash fried tuna stuffed with olives and finish off with the mussels in a sherry broth. The 9th Door offers many happy hour drinks specials as well. If you want to play it safe, go for the $4 glass of red wine. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, try the $5 sherry flight or the cucumber martini.

I have never been disappointed with anything from the happy hour menu at the 9th Door. Menu items are small, though. Many of the $2 or $3 items only allow for two or three bites, but the plates should be small- they're tapas. Usually, when I go to the 9th Door, I'll order some things off the happy hour menu, and a few heavier items from the regular menu. I love sitting at one of the couches in the dim light and have lively conversation with friends or a romantic dinner with someone special.
