Colorado Punkin Chunkin | Aurora Jack-O-Launch (annually, 2nd Saturday in October)
The Arapahoe County Fairgrounds is now host to an annual pumpkin launching festival called the Colorado Punkin Chunkin, formerly called the Aurora Jack-O-Launch. This October festival has become a Colorado tradition and one of the best fall things to do in Colorado. This event used to be located at Aurora's DeLaney farm, which unfortunately was far too small for the big teams to safely fire a pumpkin.
Teams of pumpkin assassins gather to launch, hurl, and catapult their pumpkins in several categories to see who launches the farthest and most accurately. This event has grown over the years and is now an official national Punkin Chunkin event, attracting teams from all over the country.
There are a variety of other attractions such as concerts and farm exhibits at this festival. You can purchase pumpkins at the event also, and they have a pumpkin-sitting area to store your purchase until you leave.
This year's event is going to much bigger than ever before and I'm excited to see what's in store. If you haven't been to a Punkin Chunkin yet, this is the year to go see it!
This year a $5 parking fee is being introduced, but the event itself is free. I don't know if there is free parking near the fairgrounds or not.
