Mile High Holidays:

The winter months are one of the best times to find a downtown Denver hotel discount. Mile High Holidays begins around Thanksgiving and continues through early February for many participating hotels, making it one of the best things to do in Denver in winter.

They set aside a certain number of rooms each day for those of us wanting to enjoy the holidays away from home at low rates. This gives you a chance to enjoy downtown Denver attractions such as LoDo, Larimer Square, and Capital Hill. You might also want to attend a convention or a show at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in the Theater District. Typically these are classic Colorado hotels that offer a unique experience you won't find at the major discount chains.

Mile High Holidays Update for Winter 2011-2012:

This year there are only a couple of hotels in downtown Denver on the list of $52.80 deals. Many hotels have increased their prices tremendously from the usual $52.80 price, and some of them have restricted their dates to only a handful of days. There are a lot of hotels on the list that aren't really 52.80 worthy, such as chain hotels outside of downtown that don't really offer much of an experience for $52.80. If you want one of the few rooms available downtown at $52.80, you better book early. My recommendation would be the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Denver on the 16th Street Mall. Marriott is one of the only hotels continuing the 52.80 tradition and they deserve our business.

In addition to Mile High Holidays, many hotels reduce their rates for Denver Restaurant Week, which is actually approximately 2 weeks at the end of February and beginning of March.
