National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden (free weekdays)

The National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) in Golden near Flatirons Mall has a free visitors center with a variety of interesting exhibits about alternative energy projects. If you are looking for things to do in Denver that outline the future of Colorado's green economy, this visitor's center should not be missed.

It's typically open 9 to 5 weekdays, although they sometimes close to the public for special events. You should probably call them before visiting to make sure they are open, I found out the hard way that their web site schedule is not updated properly, and ended up making the trip to the lab only to find it was closed for an event.

Address:
15013 Denver West Parkway
Golden, CO 80401

The NREL Visitor's Center is off of I-70 at the Denver West exit.  Signs will direct you to the location. You will drive toward a security checkpoint booth, but the parking lot for the visitor's center is just before the checkpoint on your right.
